  • The Ducks continue to improve chances with players east of Colrado. The Ducks appear to be improving their chances with Trovon Reed (Thibodaux, LA) who is ESPN’s No. 9 rated wide receiver. Checks in at 6’ 170 pounds and plays everything for his team. Early reports from DuckTerritory.com’s Justin Hopkins is that the visit opened his eyes to Oregon and what the Ducks could offer. One factor that is playing into Reed’s choice is the possible connection with Lache Seastrunk (Temple, TX) who is another high level recruit as he’s the nation’s sixth best running back. The plan was for both recruits to come to Eugene for the USC game last weekend but Seastrunk had travel problems and couldn’t make it out. Reed is said to be down to Auburn, LSU, Oregon, and Tennessee and picking on November 13th. However there could be the chance he holds off if he’s not sure and that would appear to because Oregon is making a strong case for this talented athlete.

  • Oregon looks to be the favorite for top 150 watch list member for 2011 DaMarcus Smith (Louisville, KY/Seneca HS). While Smith is the player garnishing the most attention so far in the media in regards to 2011 quarterbacks the Ducks also have a player just up the road from Eugene who is quietly holding his own. Brett Smith (Salem, OR/West Salem HS) is a 6’1 180 pound junior that has thrown for 1,022 yards on 51-80 passes for 12 touchdowns and only one INT through six games. He also has added 45 rushes for 511 yards and 7 more touchdowns. Smith is quickly rising the recruiting ranks as schools such as Washington, Boise State, Oregon, UCLA, Notre Dame, Northwestern. Transcripts for Smith have been requested from the coaching staff at Oregon and that could be an indicator the staff is looking deeper into the recruitment of Smith.

  • Another local product the Ducks look to be improving chances with is 2010 defensive end Owa Odighizuwa (Portland, OR/David Douglas HS) who is the nation’s No. 4 ranked defensive end. Owa checks in at 6’3 and 235 pounds and has a motor many college coaches desire to play defense. Owa was on hand for the Oregon vs. USC game and was greatly impressed by the Duck defense. Oregon wasn’t a primary leader but appears to be moving up the charts.

  • While Gabe King (Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS) is another high level end, No. 19, is high on Oregon make sure to don’t count out the Cal Bears. The Bears still are holding a strong impression on King who too was in Autzen for the SC game. The Ducks and Bears look to be the clear cut favorites for King right now.

  • Ronnie Daniels (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva HS) a 2011 6’1 200 pound athlete was a surprise unofficial visitor for the Oregon vs. SC game. There were rumors circulating the internet message board that Oregon had offered him a scholarship and Daniels and committed. Not sure sources to DuckTerritory.com reports. Daniels doesn’t currently hold an offer and without Oregon won’t accept a commit. Daniels is a player to watch out for down the road for 2011 as he can play multiple positions at the next level. Oregon, New Mexico, New Mexico Sate, Arizona State, Arizona, and Colorado are all recruiting Daniels.
