A very interesting prospect keeps popping up in Eugene but there is a method to his madness.  Lemar Durant didn’t win the MVP award at the Oregon Nike camp this past weekend but he may have been the most impressive wide receiver out there.  It is probably not a stretch to say that Co-MVP’s should have been awarded.  Awards are one thing, but when you are trying everything you can to get noticed by college coaches, strong performances at these camps is what matters most.

The reason the camp circuit is so valuable to Lemar is that he hails from the town of Coquitlam in British Columbia. “Yeah man, it’s up there where it is tough to get attention.  That is why am back in Eugene.”  Durant went to the Nike Camp at Eugene, then headed down to Nevada Reno’s camp and received an offer from the coaches on the spot. “They offered me after about 5 minutes.  They said they really like me and my style of play.  It is my first offer so I was really happy with that.”  First offer in hand and now he is back in Eugene for the Oregon Team Camp to try for another.

Even with his strong showing at the two camps he feels he has more to prove.  “I don’t face the best competition up in Canada so it is important for me to get down here and show off my skills against the best kids from the states.”  When asked to describe his game, Durant laid it out like this.  “I’m an all around type player.  I am big, physical, I have real good hands and I am a good downfield blocker.”  His frame justifies his idea of being a physical receiver.  The kid is a rock and could easily bulk up to 220 and play safety or LB.  “We only have like 25 guys on our team so I play all over.  Mostly receiver and safety though.”

Durant prefers the offensive side of the ball because he feels he can make the biggest impact on that side of the ball.  “I feel like that is where I can be the most successful.  I love safety, but I like making plays with the ball in my hands.”

As far as his interest in Oregon goes, Durant said, “Man I love it here.  I came to their Junior Day, then the Nike Camp and now I am here for their Team Camp.  It’s a great place and everything here is top of the line.”  He mentioned that he has received some letters from the Oregon staff and that their interest in him to this point is at the safety position.  The most important thing to him at this point is the attention he needs to get.  “Right now I want to hit as many camps as possible so that the coaches can see what I can do.  I feel like I am the type of player that can come in and make a difference for a program.  I just need to perform for the coaches and take it from there.”

To date, Durant has his lone offer from the Wolf Pack of Nevada but he said Washington, Idaho and Boise State are showing him some serious attention.  “I have received letters and been invited to several camps, including the University of Southern California.”

Fortunately for Durant, he has a couple more camps lined up including Washington’s Team Camp and the USC Rising Stars Camp.  He hopes to make some more heads turn at those two camps and we will follow up with him to see where things stand after he has had a chance to shine in front of the coaches at these schools.  “Really I just want to showcase my skills and prove that I belong.  I may be from a place far away that isn’t known for football but I am here to prove to people that I can hang with the best of them….No matter where I am.

Duckterritory.com will stay in touch with Durant as he makes his way around the camp circuit and looks to show people that Boseko Lokombo isn’t the only great football player from British Columbia.

Being a Canadian myself, I would love us to grab this guy! I wonder if BoLo knows much about him?

Durant seems to have the package we are looking for in a WR or S and the fact that he seems to like us a lot...I say we offer him!

GO DUCKS!!

Hey Rayagreed he SOUNDS like a good kid but when we have so much top talent interested in Oregon he would have to be stellar! Our Coaches have been doing great at recruiting and IF hes the right kid they will offer him.

I was at the Nike and Oregon Camps and not one DB stopped him. He's a true talent! Very impressive. I'd love for us to get him too! But ultimatly it's going to be this young man's decision where he's most comfortable and feels he can showcase his skills best. I hope we snag him, but if not, I wish him the best of luck!
Go Ducks!

Yea, I know he's real good and him and Bose are friends! I know them both =)

he was the best junior and Lokombo was the best senior last season, will be interesting to see what happens, I thought he was already offered by BC Lions
