When you are a top 150 athlete in the entire country some people would think one might sit on their previous accomplishments and take the easy road into college. Curtis White, a 6’5, 250 pound tight end from Sheldon High School in Eugene Oregon, doesn’t fit that criteria.

“I am always trying to find something to get better at. You can’t stop thinking you need to improve because someone out there is working just as hard as you,” explained White.

While White is committed to the Oregon Ducks already he made it a point to get out to Oregon’s half day camp held on June 13th and get some work in with his future college coaches. It also didn’t hurt to have White in attendance while some highly rated recruits were in town as well for the camp.

“I came to the camp to work with the staff and try to improve my first step and my explosiveness off the line of scrimmage. I feel like I need to work in that department so I was working on that the most. The camp went really well. It was an awesome camp. I had a great time working with the staff and all the other great athletes that were in attendance,” said White.

While White was at the camp to work on his game he also took it upon himself to speak with defensive tackle Georgo Uko from the San Diego area and learn more about a possible teammate down the road.

“I got a chance to hang out with Uko for awhile. He’s a really talented and athletic player but he is an even cooler guy. I talked with him a good amount and we got to know each other better which was good. I know he’s really looking hard at Oregon and that we are one of his favorite so I tried to get to know him better and talk about playing together,” said White.

While the camp was only a half-day long White came away a better player and hopes he made a good impression on more athletes that were in the camp to help bring more talent into the Oregon program.

ESPN/Scouts, Inc. Evaluation:
White is a good athlete and could be recruited for both sides of the ball. He has good size and with his frame he should be able to add bulk, once he gets into a college weight program. He could be recruited as a tight end or a defensive end and has ideal size for both spots. His best fit is at tight end -- at least in the short term. He has good hands and can seem to just pluck the ball out of the air at times. Once he catches the ball, he is a good runner and can make some defenders miss. He moves pretty fluidly for a kid with his size. He displays good speed and with his size and athleticism can cause some matchup problems. He runs solid routes and can be physical as a receiver. As a blocker, he is not afraid to mix it up. He will get in a defenders way or smack a defender if presented the opportunity, but needs to keep working on his technique in this phase. At this point, he looks more comfortable as a receiver. While he is a good tight end prospect, he also has upside as a defensive end. He relies a little more on his natural athleticism on defense, but shows a pretty high ceiling. Needs to be more consistent with his hands, but can get around blocks and closes very well on the ball-carrier. He can apply some heat coming off the edge. He has the raw tools to cause some problems, but needs to keep developing some of the little things at the defensive end position. White is a promising prospect with size, athleticism and versatility. Displays the tools to be a good, productive college player.

Love having Curtis in the fold already. He is going to be a stud, and if he can help bring in more players like himself Oregon will be a force for years to come.

Have a great senior year Curtis!

Can't wait to see ya suit up for the Ducks!

LOVE that he is already referring to Oregon as WE, he is already a DUCK through and through and is going to be a good one.

Saw Curtis while I was at the Coaches camp. Kid had a smile on his face the whole time, this is a great young man to represent our program! Great to have you around Curtis.
