Well the roller coaster is now over. Last week was a big week for all the Duck football fans out there. Oregon signed it's recruiting class for the 2010 cycle. It was a very solid class from top to bottom with a couple surprises and many kids that look to fill some of the solid gaps in the future. Oregon ultimately returns almost every starter next year on the squad, which will allow most of this year's class a great chance to redshirt if needed, and learn the system and adjust to a new college lifestyle better. Oregon signed a total of 23 recruits to the class so far. Last week in a press conference, Chip Kelly alluded that there could be a couple open spots remaining. Oregon's class is represented of players from 8 different states across the country. The class features 10 offenisve players, 10 defensive players, 2 special teams players, and 1 that looks to be an athlete. That's a pretty balanced class and the headlining group has to be the running back corp featuring Lache Seastrunk and Dontae Williams. However the secondary group is very strong in this class as well with top names like Troy Hill, Dior Mathis, and Erick Dargan. However there is a lot more to the University of Oregon athletics than just football. Let's take a quick look around the campus to see what's happening with some of the other student athletes. Men's Basketball Well the roller coaster continues for the Men's basketball team. They took a loss in Corvallis on Saturday to the Beavers. They lost 42-62 and have lost both games to the Beavers this year. They were seemingly pulling it around up to Saturday after beating USC and UCLA at home over the last couple weeks. Up ahead Oregon hits the road to face Arizona and Arizona State, both of which they lost to at home earlier this season. Recruiting wise, Oregon will only take 2 recruits in this class. Ernie Kent is searching hard for a standout point guard in this class. Tony Wroten and Josh Selby are a couple of names to keep an eye on. Women's Basketball The women had better success on Saturday against in-state rival Oregon State on Saturday. They were able to beat them at home by a margin of 20, 82-62. With that win, they have now won 2 in a row after hitting a 5 game losing skid. The women will host Arizona on Thursday at Mac, and then host Arizona State on Saturday. As of now according to the USTFCCCA indoor poll, the women are second in the nation, while the men are third. Also while at the event, senior Ashton Eaton broke the collegiate record for the heptathlon. On February 5th, Associate Athletic director Vin Lananna announced via goducks.com that Oregon signed 8 women and 7 men to the track and field team. The future continues to be bright for the Oregon track and field team. To get tickets to the NCAA track and field championships in June be sure to check out www.goducks.com. Baseball In two weeks on Friday February 19th the team will kick off against Cal State Fullerton on the road. Junior right handed closer Drew Gagnier has been named as one of 40 players to the AP Stopper of the year watch list.
